Take in exceptional views of the Indian Ocean and coastal forest areas on a self-guided tour of one of Australia’s tallest mainland lighthouses.

Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse in the fascinating coastal town of Augusta. This towering structure is located at continental Australia’s most south-western point. Embark on a self-guided tour to learn about the region, including the flora of the cape and historic shipwrecks. This grand lighthouse is near many other Augusta attractions, including a beautiful limestone show cave.

Climb more than 170 steps to the lighthouse’s observation area. The area boasts extraordinary seascape and wilderness views. Notice the lighthouse cottages far below and waves crashing against jagged rocks. Dolphin and whale sightings are also common.

The grand structure dates to the late 19th century. At approximately 39 meters (128 feet) tall it is one of Australia’s tallest mainland lighthouses. Its original light source was a kerosene wick lamp, considered one of the largest at the time. It was also operated manually until the late 20th century. Learn the history of Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse on a self-guided audio tour.

Drive to many other Augusta attractions from Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. Jewel Cave is just 17 kilometres (11 miles) from the lighthouse. This beautiful limestone cave is one of the largest show caves in Western Australia. Study the stalactites and helictites, stunning natural structures that take thousands of years to form.

The Cape to Cape Track stretches from Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse. This 135-kilometre (84-mile) bushwalking track features extraordinary natural views and around 280 species of plant. Observe cliffs, caves and incredible rock formations at many points on this long-distance bushwalking track.

You’ll find Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse approximately 8 kilometres (5 miles) from the centre of Augusta. The lighthouse is open daily, excluding Christmas Day. Discount admission packages are available if you wish to visit other Augusta attractions, including Jewel Cave. Enjoy coffee and a light lunch overlooking Flinders Bay in one of the nearby heritage cottages.

Stop at Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse for impressive natural views at the most south-western point of continental Australia.
